DJI has officially announced the release date of its latest drone, the DJI Mini 4K, set to launch on April 29 at 6am PT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST / 11pm AEST. Unlike previous DJI drone releases that were often preceded by speculation, rumors, and leaked images, the unveiling of the Mini 4K has been relatively quiet.

The DJI Mini 4K is expected to be an entry-level model, offering 4K video recording capabilities. The design of the Mini 4K appears to be similar to DJI’s current entry-level drone, the Mini 2 SE, which has recently seen a price drop to $269 / £249 / AU$459 on Amazon and the DJI store.
While the Mini 2 SE shoots video in 2.7K resolution, the Mini 4K’s upgrade to 4K video recording is a significant improvement. However, some in the DJI community speculate that the Mini 4K could be a refreshed version of the Mini 2, given the expected price difference between the two models.
Features such as omni-directional object sensing and the D-Log M color profile, which are present in the higher-end Mini 4 Pro, are unlikely to be included in the Mini 4K. Instead, the Mini 4K is expected to offer the user-friendly D-Cinelike color profile, suitable for beginners who prefer not to delve into extensive color grading.
Despite its affordability, the Mini 4K is expected to retain the lightweight design of its predecessors, weighing less than 250g. It is also anticipated to offer up to 30 minutes of flight time, up to 10km HD video transmission, and moderate wind resistance, making it a versatile and reliable option for drone enthusiasts.
