Leak check · October 2026
DJI Neo 3 is close.
Is Neo 2 still the buy?
China registry, retail boxes, and a rumoured Oct/Nov launch window. Here is what is confirmed, what is only leaked, and whether waiting makes sense.

Somewhere between a China civil drone registry line and a “Not For Sale” retail box, the DJI Neo 3 stopped feeling like vaporware. Leakers have photographed packaging, a production date of September 21, 2026 showed up attached to model DEN326 at 192.7 g, and trackers are pointing at an October or November launch. DJI still has not said a word.
So should you wait, or fly the Neo 2 you can buy today?
This guide separates registry facts from rumour sheet claims, stacks Neo 2’s official specs against what Neo 3 is said to bring, and lands on a practical call for creators who care about cinematic daylight footage (and the filters that make it work).
What is confirmed vs what is still rumour
Treat every Neo 3 claim as one of three buckets. Mixing them is how bad “release date” articles get written.
Stronger signals
Closer to fact
- China registry
- DEN326 · 192.7 g
- Production stamp
- 21 Sep 2026 (factory date)
- Retail packaging
- Fly More box photographed
- DJI announcement
- None yet
- Launch date
- Not published
Read it asHardware is real and in production. Timing is still inference.
Rumour layer
Label carefully
- 1/1.1-inch sensor
- Spec sheet leak
- 2x lossless zoom
- Unconfirmed
- RC Mini screen
- Seen on box art
- Built-in O4 radio
- Inferred from BOM
- US retail path
- Looks blocked
Read it asExciting if true. Not a reason to trash a working Neo 2 yet.
Honest framing: A production date is not a launch date. A leaked marketing panel is not a DJI press kit. Until DJI posts a product page, Neo 3 camera claims stay in the rumour column even when the packaging looks finished.
DJI Neo 3 leaks worth paying attention to
The strongest thread started in mid-September 2026, when leaker Igor Bogdanov shared Neo 3 Fly More Combo packaging with a red pre-release sticker. DroneXL later reported seeing that kind of box in the wild and said the packaging itself did not look fake. Outlets including Notebookcheck and DroneRanker covered the same trail.
Then China’s civil drone registry listing (“one aircraft, one code”) named the Neo 3 as model DEN326 at 192.7 grams, with a production date of September 21, 2026. That is a factory record, not a store shelf date, but it is harder to dismiss than a random social clip.
Early October added two more rumour beats: a marketing-style panel that listed a 1/1.1-inch square sensor, 2x lossless zoom, and high-speed ActiveTrack language, plus an unboxing-style video that matched the earlier box art. Pricing still has not leaked in a trustworthy way.
- Registry weight: 192.7 g keeps the aircraft under the common 250 g line, heavier than Neo 2’s 151 g bare / 160 g with its Digital Transceiver.
- Bundle shift (from box photography): DJI RC Mini with a small screen, three batteries, charging hub, spare props. The Neo 2 clip-on Digital Transceiver is missing from the printed list, which is why many writers infer an internal O4 radio.
- Design cues on art: spoked propeller guards, extra rear venting, a top sensor dome. Nose gimbal placement looks familiar.
- China-first packaging marks: Chinese national standards on the panel point to a domestic launch before wider markets.
We are not republishing leaker phone photos here. For primary visuals, read the reporting on DJI Rumors’ Neo 3 fact-check, DroneRanker’s Neo 3 leak breakdown, and Notebookcheck’s unboxing coverage. Those pages host or credit the packaging shots.
When is the DJI Neo 3 release date?
Official answer: DJI has not announced one.
The circulating October to November 2026 window is an educated guess. It lines up with a late-September production stamp, annual Neo cadence (Neo 2 arrived around late October / mid-November 2025 depending on market), and how late retail boxes usually appear before a DJI drop. Earlier “June 2026” and “September 2026 launch” chatter already failed. Treat the new window as plausible, not promised.
Expect China first. US buyers face a separate problem: new DJI airframes still need FCC authorization, and recent launches have struggled under Covered List rules. A controller grant for an RC Mini does not automatically clear the aircraft. If you are shopping in the US, waiting on Neo 3 is waiting on policy as much as product.

*4K/100fps on Neo 2 needs remote or motion control per DJI’s notes. Palm and phone workflows stay on the more common frame rates.
If the 1/1.1-inch square sensor rumour holds, Neo 3 would jump a clear generation in low light and reframing headroom. That is the one upgrade that could make waiting feel rational for image quality obsessives outside the US. Everything else on the rumour sheet (screened mini remote, built-in radio, refreshed guards) is nice, not must-have, if you already like Neo 2’s follow-me and omni sensing.
Below is a leaked promotional-style render that has circulated with Neo 3 rumour coverage. Treat it as marketing art, not a DJI product photo.

Should you wait for Neo 3 or buy Neo 2 now?
Buy Neo 2 if any of these are true:
- You want to shoot this month, not “sometime after the next DJI keynote.”
- You are in the US (or another market where new DJI authorizations are sticky).
- You mainly fly palm takeoff, ActiveTrack, and social vertical clips. Neo 2 already does that job.
- You care more about learning exposure and motion blur than owning the newest model code.
Wait (carefully) if:
- You are outside the US, can pause a purchase for a few weeks, and the rumoured sensor jump is the whole reason you want a Neo-class drone.
- A screened RC Mini in the combo is a dealbreaker feature for how you fly.
- You are upgrading from the original Neo and can tolerate one more generation of rumour fog.
Why Neo 2 footage still needs ND filters
Whether you stay on Neo 2 or eventually move to Neo 3, daylight video has the same physics problem. Lock a cinematic shutter (about 1/60 at 30 fps, or 1/120 at 60 fps), keep ISO low, and bright sun will still overexpose the frame. That is what ND is for.
Neo 2’s 1/2-inch sensor and f/2.2 lens look clean when exposure is disciplined. Without ND, the camera protects highlights by yanking shutter speed up, and motion turns harsh. Freewell’s magnetic Neo / Neo 2 kits keep that fix under a couple of grams so the gimbal stays happy.

Our Freewell Gear channel ran Neo ND filters through bright-scene tests so you can see the motion and exposure change without guessing.

Final thoughts
Neo 3 looks real. The registry line, the production stamp, and the retail packaging are a different class of leak than a blurry prototype clip. The October or November window is still a rumour consensus, not a DJI calendar invite.
Neo 2 remains the honest buy for anyone who needs a palm-sized follow cam that already shoots 4K, already senses obstacles, and already has magnetic Freewell glass ready for daylight. If the rumoured 1/1.1-inch sensor survives an official unveil, image-first buyers outside the US can revisit. Until then, fly what you can mount an ND on today.
Leak smart. Fly sooner.
Wait for Neo 3 only if the sensor rumour is your whole brief.
Everyone else: Neo 2 plus disciplined ND will outshoot an empty calendar.
